Ubuntu 12.04 (precise): Would like to exchange the Left control and Left shift with their right counter-parts,

e.g.
current physical left shift becomes right shift keycode.
current physical left control becomes right control keycode

current physical right shift becomes left shift keycode.
current physical right control becomes right control keycode.

Why?

I've always had issues with both windows and Ubuntu running on an A665 Toshiba Laptop and so have others.
When I think I'm typing a left upper case R, I get a control R. All sorts of bad things happen. Using the right counter-part doesn't do bad things.

Would prefer a solution initially that does not cause a re-boot.

So typing left capital R;s and W's are best done with with the right shift key.

Thanks in advance.
