Troubleshooting an HX711 IC in a digital scale

Hi, I've got couple of Acaia digital scales used by baristas. The person who brought in the last one said that the measurements were off and I also noticed that the numbers were jumpy too. Anyway the manufacture states that its almost always the load cell which is effected. I tried swapping the controller board with another scale which had a good load cell. It didn't work probably the controller is calibrated in such a way that its supposed to be used with the load cell it came with.
Anyway going to my question - I was wondering whether it was possible to troubleshoot an HX711 IC. I could get access to an oscilloscope in college. Maybe check the serial outputs?

Thanks for the help

First I would check that the supply voltage is stable.
Check that you have voltage across the load cell.
Check the voltage at the +INA and -INA inputs. With no load on the scale the voltages should be the same or pretty close.
