To regulate AI, we need laws, not code of ethics.

I was referring to the more comprehensively tested and accurate vehicles that will roll out in future.
What happened in the past is a clear case of negligence. You cant bring out a product in real life situation when its not 100% tested and checked for millions combinations of scenarios
I like that concept. This means no products will be brought out. A win win

Most technology we use today came about because of the military. Same for advancements in medicine. It seems odd to say that use of technology is not wanted for military purposes when it is thst very purpose that is driving its development...

100% tested?

Let's see. Imagine that all our AI car ever needed to do was multiply two 32-bit integers together.

Now let's say that we could test it's ability to do this correctly at the rate of one billion multiplications per second.

How long would it take to test its ability to do this for 100% of the possible inputs?

Hint: If we started testing the year Christopher Columbus was born, a child born today would be old enough to vote about the time we get done testing.

Stop everything... I already found that mistakes were made in the years of 1812 and 1914...

Nobody is saying they don't/can't use the advancements, but does it have to be destructive is the question.
And whether w agree or not, autonomous vehicles will roll out at some point. There could be a backlash regarding safety in people but its most certainly going to impact the industrial sector.

hi marcus,
Laws are only the start of the process, you also need Law Enforcement, Punishment and Incarceration centres etc ....
Its also got to be adopted Globally.

Sadly, my knee jerk reaction is.... it's never going to happen.

I agree. So when things went wrong with the initial lot of AV's, there was a chaos and everybody suddenly started talking about 'how' and 'what' in terms of how to proceed with safety measures and ensure the vehicles are through tested before roll out, what measures could be taken to ensure the chances of collision are minimal.
Not that it will change overnight. It may take years to figure out the guidelines and best practices but its not like a criminal law enforcement. Its more about setting industry best practices. Yes, people will break the rules from time to time but atleast the fundamental models would remain intact.
When you say law enforcement needs to be in place, do you think there's no standards enforcement committee that checks for present day models and technology?
