Thought for the day...

Until you share the secret of a never-ending life, I choose to live a happy life with bacon and beer.

I ran seven miles yesterday in 90°/70% RH heat on a bacon and egg breakfast (and I'm closer to 100 than I am to 18).

How far did that bison take you?
I haven't been running for several years, I should resume but used to run 6 miles a day at 6 MPH 6 days a week and did 50 push ups twice a day 7 days a week and 20 one armed push ups on each arm several times a week.

No amount of running though will counteract the carcinogens from bad foods, you can run but you can't hide.

Nothing wrong with (good) ale either in moderation, but I don't drink Coors or Budweiser or other toy beers, but each to his own.

I started a keto diet on january, and now I'm down more than 25 pounds ... couldn't be happier. The first couple of weeks were hell, though. I hadn't realized how addicted I was to sugar until I went could turkey on it. My body felt as though it went through a damn two week hangover until all of a sudden, from one day to the next, I felt the hell of a lot better and a clarity of mind that I cannot describe.

I'm now walking (not running, though) 10 km a day and the effects are quite noticeable. I do walk at a brisk pace, though.

And although, thank God, I still can and do eat bacon whenever it pleases me, I had to give up beer almost completely and now drink red wine, whiskey, rum and other spirits with no carbs in them. And @killivolt was right, sugar and alcohol are the worst possible combination one might make. I was very fond of sugar-laced tropical-style afternoon drinks. And now I feel zero alcohol aftershock on the next day since I stopped having them,

10 minute miles and 50 push ups several years ago is meh.
I was in very good shape, my resting pulse was 42, like I said I don't run much the past few years. It was a 100 push ups, I did 50 twice per day. You likely can't muster a single one armed push up due to all the lard and gristle you chomp.

My resting pulse as I sit here is around 62 these days.

But I'm not sedentary, not running every day doesn't mean one is sedentary.

None of this alters the fact that some foods are good for us and some are not, you are what you eat.

I don't mind that you're vegan or whatever. There's no need to be so vocal about it. It's just annoying and you're not changing any minds.

Life is for the living. And for living.
I'm 65, I don't run these days but did some years ago - why the need to prove something here? I simply pointed out that bison is superb meat far better than piggy wiggy. Enjoy your bacon but it must be pointed out that it isn't a healthy food and all the running in the world can't negate the complex effect it can have on our bodies.

Since I eat bison I can't be a vegan can I. What makes you think you're 20 years older than me anyway? are you? are you 85?

Nothing can negate any of the complex effects of a) food, b) environment, c) biology, d) genetics, e) physics on our bodies.

We are all going to die of something. It may be cancer, it may be heart disease.

It may be a bus.

Life is two dates separated by a dash. It's the dash that counts.

The human body utilizes three basic biochemical processes for energy, all three are at work at any point in time but the degree of each depends on how long we've bee doing something, how hard it is and hormones etc.

We metabolize fat the most when we are loafing, literally lying on the couch watching TV, most of our energy (like 90%+) comes from stored fats.

If we start jogging then we utilize glucose to begin with then after around 30 minutes that changes and we begin to use fat more and glucose less.

The greatest energy output is like weight lifting, fats and sugars cannot produce much energy in just a few seconds and so a phosphorous base chemistry takes place.

So people who want to lose fat by jogging need to understand that t he body uses hardly any fat until after about 30 minutes activity and then it begins to draw on fat more and glucose less so unless you jog for about an hour, most of the calories are not from fat.

Once the brain realizes we are on a long slog, it releases a hormone that causes less glucose and more fat to be used.

Agreed ... but in my case, my blood's glucose levels should be extremely low. Since, as I mentioned earlier, I'm on a keto diet.

OK yes, that's good I guess. One of the best books about the body and training and nutrition is this one (I've read many) he stuff I said above I learned from this book:

Although it focuses on ballet dancers, most of the book is generic. Ballet dancers are often under pressure to maintain a low weight yet high performance.

Ballet itself isn't the best way to develop stamina though, most ballet dancers don't run but focus on high output in short bursts. Boxers, martial artists and so on would benefit from this book.

Our bodies (able bodied people) are amazing in that they adapt to the environment, just keep something up regularly and your body will change.
