“When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail."

Everyone makes a big deal out of the fact that I became a spy. It's because spying is such an unusual crime, but what they don't understand is that I became a spy because that is what I had access to. If I'd worked in a bank, I would have taken money. If I'd had access to dope, I would have sold drugs. The fact that I became a spy is really insignificant. The point is that I became a spy because I needed money. It was as simple as that.

The next question is, what did he need money for?
Vices and BS combined with being a conspiracy nutcase.

This POS did most of the jobs I did on the admin side, there is no amount of money (direct, immediate physical threats to the family are a different matter) that would make me betray that trust..

So happy he's dead.

Good thing I invested that $10K in 1970!
Interesting: if one were to invest in gold in 1970, one could have purchased 278 oz. at $35.96 per ounce for $10K.

That gold would be worth about $943,000 today.

If we assume gold has the tendency to hold its purchasing power over time, the real (tangible) value of the stock market has only increased by 3x since 1970.

Do you expect other countries to jump in at this point, or only after the nukes went flying?
Good question ... they will definitely jump in after (if) the nukes fly ... but I do not know if they'll get involved before that. Whatever happens, if things escalate it will not end well for anyone.

Well, I can't personally see the incentive for any of the nuclear powers to start flinging nukes as a result of an exchange between Pakistan and India.
Why should anyone get in the middle of a family feud? Maybe the former colonial rulers once cared but I don't think they do today.

Seems insane to fire nukes. We had plans for tactical use during to cold war but IMO it would escalate to MAD once the first city was hit. The SIOP was bouncing rubble after a few hours of strikes.

The number of targets in the NTB varied over time, from 16,000 in 1985 to 12,500 at the end of the Cold War in 1991, to 2,500 by 2001
