With all due respect I've been told that politics is really to be left alone, yet here people are repeatedly making contentious claims about other cultures and countries. I'd happily discuss the relative merits and shortcomings of China and the US here but politics (which includes geopolitics) is out of bounds, I just wish others would respect the rule that I've been asked to respect.

IMO a young Chinese person should look a the official policies of the CCP because what's being discussed here. I also have Chinese relatives (from long ago when they built the railroads in Texas and married former slaves). Stop making this personal.
IMO it doesn't help the cause of actual racism defending the CCP.

 

I always try to make a clear distinction between a country and its people, and its government. They are usually far from being the same thing. At all. Unfortunately, out of habit, most of us tend to refer to a government and/or its leaders using the name of the country instead.

Why dwell then on China? other than racism and xenophobia why is China routinely called out in this forum when I could list umpteen countries (including the United States) that have deplorable records in many areas? Is it the only country with human rights abuses? No.

Are there countries that have arrest and detention without charge? are there countries that bomb schools? are there countries that behead people in public for being gay? are there countries that bomb other countries into the dust? are there countries that use chemical or banned weapons?

Yes there are, and some of them are our "friends" and some are our "enemies" singling out China is reprehensible when discussing broad subjects like human rights, conflict, espionage, ethnic cleansing and threats to peace.

I do not mind discussing geopolitics, I'm rather experienced in fact but I've been told to avoid political posts and especially criticism of Israel. That's selective criticism and this is what's happening with China as a subject.

Everything you say can be challenged, it is inaccurate to put it mildly. The US has killed more people since WW2 than any other country, it has dropped more bombs than any other country, it has caused more starvation and poverty than any other nation and has one of the highest homicide rates in the developed world.

So please, save your crocodile tears over "communism" and "socialism" there are far worse ideologies around today.

The number of ripoffs, scams, stolen IP, fake parts and flat out criminal activity from China (businesses) is well documented by all. People are not being racist or xenophobic, they are being realistic about the current situation IRT China and technology. The calls of blatant dishonesty is the fault of those being dishonest to customers (That includes vast numbers of Chinese customers being ripped off) that expect to get what they pay for.
