Agree. I watched, my now dead older brother kick the addiction demon. Yeah ... although I've seen very successful cases of hiring among some families, the general rule should be as you say if one wants to have peace of mind during family reunions ...Just for the record: I did, in fact, lay off my brother-in-law.
