Broad spectrum of interests, this gentleman

Such was the strength of the foundations that when the subsequent fourth and current lighthouse, designed by James Douglass using Robert Stevenson’s developments of Smeaton’s techniques, was constructed on a new site in April 1879, the foundations of Smeaton’s earlier lighthouse, in place for 100 years, were too strong to be removed and so were left in situ.

the streets of San Francisco

A dog can't walk the streets anymore.
The first time I was in San Francisco was the early eighties. Even then there were a number of homeless. Very late at night they would setup their cardboard box shacks on sidewalks. Around 6AM the cops would come along an roust them. Streets were swept clean. It was one heck of a process. Now, apparently, things are simply out of control.

Plenty of people with plenty of money in CA that like to tell everyone else what to do with their money. They are waiting for the government to do something about the issue with other peoples money, when they could simply band together and raise the money among themselves to house these people. This problem to go away almost over night.

Paris is a classic example. Over 1 billion raised to restore a building that was just recently destroyed but the homeless have been walking the streets of Paris for years. But, you see, the homeless are the government's problem.

Breed will probably be telling us that it is just more people are aware and they are reporting the same single pile of poo.

OK so the video has the wrong poo map (it is not San Fransisco). BFD.

San Francisco is not the only one with a major problem. Seattle is particularly bad down by the train station. So much so, I am paying for an expensive hotel room rather than get a room at the hostel overnight.

And of course @nsaspook, I don't need to tell you how bad it is in Portland. Those beautiful parks down by the Willamette have been taken over.

What do these 3 cities have in common besides being west coast cities?

Some once really nice bike paths and parks have been destroyed.

It's still a wonderful place away from the filth.

I am going to be coming from Government Camp to Portland. Plan is to head to Boring and pick up the bike path into the city. Is it a safe ride during the day? Or is it safer to go street level?

I took the Trolley Trail south last year. I was on my guard the whole way but didn't see anyone threatening. The good part about Delta getting me into Portland late was I got to ride along with all of the commuters during rush hour. I didn't see many encampments down by the river like the last time I was in town but it was pretty much heads down get to the hotel in Oregon City for the night sort of thing. ;)
