SALEM, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Senate has approved a measure to abolish the yearly time change and remain on daylight saving time.

Lawmakers on Thursday voted 23-4 to skip returning to standard time every fall. Areas in Oregon that are in the Mountain Time Zone are exempt and will still need to reset their clocks every year.

Only a part of one eastern county in Oregon is on Mountain Time. The rest of the state is contained in the Pacific Time Zone.

I’m surprised there hasn’t already been a class action lawsuit to abolish DST, or rather the switching it on and off. It’s a known killer and whatever supposed advantages it brings aren’t worth it.

While I would love DST year round, the scientist in me says the sun should be at apogee at noon.

Perhaps we should just stick with standard time and start our days one hour earlier.

In terms of daylight there is almost a 7 hour difference between the longest and shortest day here. In the winter nobody cares where the sun is because you can't see it. In the summer we have 14 - 15 hour days and the solar noon is later than 1PM.

If anyone thinks that is bad, try moving further north... But summer days are great!

You should move somewhere where trigonometry makes more sense.

But the sun is rarely overhead at noon local time. It is always over head at solar noon so it really does not matter what the local time is.
