Venezuela isn't the first country to try socialism. It won't be the last. What is the trigger point where socialism is relegated to the annuls of history and only talked about when using it as an example of bad government.

I'm not optimistic that the day will ever come. Socialism is a symptom caused by a nexus of ignorance (mostly of history) and human frailties (greed, lust for power over one's neighbors), and I don't see any end to those. The cure is to live right and lead the way. The sadness is that the very wealth that results from that strategy is what fuels and enables the rise of an otherwise ridiculous system.

Socialism is very good. The only thing it does not have is "Luxury", but your other problems are solved. The bad advertisement make it look bad, and it is communism that you should worry about, which is North Korea.

Cuba is not so bad as well. You can not get out, but you have a job, money, food, accomodation and without the few minor problems, it is better than the US actually.

One, or both of us, is using sarcasm. At this point, I am not sure which.
I do not want to offend you, I am not using sarcasm, I describe the situation as it is. I am also a part of one of the ex-socialist countires and I can tell you that everyone wishes anarchy had never came and socialism had stayed. It is better to not have luxury than to shoot yourself, because you can not bare the pressure of having to feed your children every day.

Sure.

His wife last year left for Colombia, abandoning him and their boys aged 6, 9 and 10. He said she couldn't stand the hunger anymore. He hasn't heard from her since.

Preparing the meat, Luna says he first rinsed it with water and then let it soak overnight in vinegar. He squeezed two lemons and let it simmer with a tomato and a half-onion.

Luna and his boys ate it.

'I was afraid that they would get sick because they are small,' he said. 'But only the little one got diarrhea and threw up.'

First the reasons for this are not exactly certain.
Second even if it is so, the reason is not the system, it is the people.
Third 1 bad case means nothing and does not work on me, I live here, and I know very well how the US takes a picture of 1 woman from the hundred of Syrian refugees and says "women and children"!

First good chuckle of the day! That's what the pro-socialism people always say, that their plans would be utopia if we could just find the right people. Sorry, "the right people" don't exist. Publicly advocating socialism should be criminalized. Socialism has proven itself to be the leading cause of death in the last century, other than natural causes. We fight against tobacco use, air pollution and obesity but these are all trivial risks compared to the far more seductive and dangerous lure of socialism.
