Thanks for some fond memories.
Starting in amateure radio at about 13 I was working in a war surplus electronics store on Saturdays. Working all day rather than pay in cash I took equipment. Circa 1963 there was plenty of good stuff especially the old ARC5 command sets. Later came my Heathkit DX 40. Think there are still a few Knight Kits in the basement. Before that stuff I remember peddling my bike to the next town over to an Arrow Electronics to buy two CK 722 transistors only to get home and fry the first one.
A big deal was a trip to Lafayette Electronics on LI NY where I grew up. Still have a R 392 Korean War era receiver.
