There was a time in my life (broke student) when I would keep stuff like that because in a real pinch you could solder new leads to them.

When I was a kid I scavenged parts from old electronics, but I found if desoldering was inconvenient, circuit boards crumble quite easily under the jaws of Diagonal Cutters. Then you just heat up the lead a bit and the remaining bit just falls right off. Not really that much trouble. Then again I never tried to sell them on etsy at a 10x markup as novelty items from an era 100 years before their time either.
