Since the Siglent seems to be getting so popular and is so packed full of features I thought it might be helpful to start a Siglent users thread where we can share features and ask questions.

My first question is what is the purpose of the Roll button? Seems to just change the time base.

Try putting a low frequency signal in and hitting the Roll button. You'll see the display change from the normal "scope" display to a scrolling "strip chart" display.

How low is low? I have two different pulses so I can see a change. 50 ms and 20ms.

Shows an interesting feature with the roll but I am not sure the value. Sort of like a scrolling ticker tape. What is its purpose? Does ot really merit a front panle button?

This thread is one I will watch as I debate another newer scope. My wife had a very nice Christmas and that leaves me some open leverage. I figure a few higher priced guns or maybe that scope and only one very high priced gun. I took a rain check on Christmas plus I have a birthday coming February 7th. :) Play this right and I can get the scope. I know she also has some Amazon bucks stashed away. You guys that have them keep the selling points coming.

Auto trigger seems to be flaky on mine. Display just continues to roll and won't sync in Auto if I increase the time per division too much. I am feeding it a 3ms pulse and a 5ms pulse.

When I increase the time / division nothing I can do to get it to sync except either decreasing the time per division or increasing it even more so one pulse appears on the screen.

Normal trigger works like a champ.

I am using rising edge trigger. Perhaps this is normal because of the difference in pulses? I don't recall having this issue with the Rigol.

I am also have trouble with history. I can''t seem to scroll through the history. Pressing the forward or Reverse buttons cause the Pause button to light up. Perhaps the scope is optimizing memory since the pulse is repeated??? Or am I doing something wrong?

I take that back. I am also having issues with Normal trigger. It is just not triggering so display just appears to be locked.

I think the triggering issue is th epulse I am sending it. Rigol is behaving the same way. I really need to learn the fine art of triggering.

I was also able to get history working. I needed more random pulse to see a change. The right most button allows you to scroll though memory using the "Intensity Adjust" knob. That history is a very cool feature. Rigol's is a little more intuitive but does not have near the amount of memory.

If it weren't for the Roll mode, on very large time/division settings you'd have to sit there waiting for the display buffer to fill up after a trigger event.

In Roll mode there isn't any triggering. From the manual:

In Roll mode the waveform moves slowly across the screen from right to left. It only operates on time base settings of 50 ms/div and slower. If the current time base setting is faster than the 50 ms/div limit, it will be set to 50 ms/div when Roll mode is entered. In Roll mode there is no trigger. The fixed reference point on the screen is the right edge of the screen and refers to the current moment in time. Events that have occurred are scrolled to the left of the reference point. (...) Use Roll mode on low- frequency waveforms to yield a display much like a strip chart recorder. It allows the waveform to roll across the display.
The Siglent's time/division settings go up to 100 seconds/division (13 minutes and 20 seconds across the full width of the screen), and I've found the Roll mode pretty handy to watch slow events.

At this point I think you're going to have to do what I did: bite the bullet and read through the manual. Until I did that, I was lost.

All I have is a quick guide. Barely much information in there at all. Is there a more extensive printed manual?

This is what mine says on Roll

"Quickly enter into roll mode"

Ah no kidding.

The Horizontal section of the meter does not seem to be mentioned at all. (Guess that is not an important section:eek:).

Congrats on the new scope.

It would help to use the model number in posts as there are several that are in the hobbyist sweet spot, pricing-wise. They are very similar but do have differences.

My trigger finger is itching over the SDS1104X-E but I think you have an SDS1202X-E.

I have a siglent and am very pleased with it, does anyone knkw how to change the colors of the traces though? or if jt is even possible.....id like to change my yellow trace to red?

I mentioned this in another thread. I do not think it is possible without a hack. Rigol doesn't do it either. I am not sure why. It would be very easy to do and be very useful to the end user that might not be able to see certain colors.

I was worried about the purple because I have a hard time seeing it on the Rigol in FFT mode put the purle trace on the Siglent is easy to read for me.

In the Owon there is a simple reason to keep colors unchanged. It coincides with the knobs and connectors of the corresponding channel. Your visual "tracing" to know what probe is hooked to what is thus, quite simple.
