Hello,

Over here we have a member @tautech who knows a lot of the oscilloscopes.

Bertus
There are some in-depth reviews on youtube but all of them are Russian, I tried using the closed caption and so on and although they are followable it was a struggle. EEVBlog has a video too but it's a product teardown and really of little use.

This is a 12-bit, 4 chan, 200 MHz scope that I recently purchased and wondered if anyone here also has this scope or knows of a written review of the scope.

SDS1000X HD capabilities are almost identical to the SDS800X HD range apart from the larger display and internal 50/1M Ohm inputs. The 1k model uses a larger slower fan for lower noise.
Either model is a very capable analytical DSO.

What exactly does CAN FD(decode only) mean on a SDS1000X HD? There is no qualifier on CAN in the specifications.

Google AI states:
CAN FD (Controller Area Network with Flexible Data-rate) is an enhanced version of the CAN protocol, enabling faster data transmission and larger payloads, crucial for modern automotive and industrial systems.

Thanks, there are several SDS800X reviews so I'm gonna take a look at those.
Be aware the front panel layout and menus are different between 800 and 1000 HD models.

All the same features are in both models but the larger 1000X HD display permits more of the menu to be placed on the display for touch/mouse access as there are less front panel buttons in the SDS1000X HD models.

I prefer to use either of these models with a mouse for menu manipulation/management yet still use the encoders for V/div and timebase settings although you can still use a mouse or touch for these.

Google AI states, OMG!!! I'm asking you as a potential customer of the product.

I know that and use CAN FD. I'm asking why is the CAN FD caveat (decode only) necessary in the specifications when CAN has no caveat. What are the limitations when using the scope to analyze a CAN FD data bus, and if there are any.

Isn't it clear ?
Decode only, no CAN FD triggering. Higher level models support CAN FD triggering.
Therefore just Edge or another trigger type must be used with CAN FD on 1000X HD.

That's why I asked for specific information like that. No it's not exactly that clear what you don't get with (decode only) and I rightly expected to see a answer like that from you because IMO you are an expert on your product line, not Google AI.

That is a major limitation for me because I often trigger on ID and other specific data patterns using the series 2 from TEK on CAN FD.

Serial trigger, decode and analysis
I2C, SPI, RS-232/422/485/UART, CAN, CAN FD, CAN XL, LIN, Automotive Ethernet 10BASE-T1S, and SENT

CAN (option)Trigger on start of frame, type of frame (data, remote, error, or overload), identifier, data, identifier and data, end of frame, missing ack, and bit stuff error on CAN buses up to 1 Mb/s, on CAN FD buses up to 16 Mb/s and on CAN XL buses up to 20 Mb/s.

Yes, I know it's a budget scope but we can hope can't we.

IMO, hope all you like but Siglent have added an advanced decode as std in a budget DSO as a model differentiation from similar models.
Siglent introduced free decodes to the marketplace when other brands still had the basic decodes as options $.

SDS2000X Plus is their lowest cost range that offers CAN FD as a fully featured decode however it's still a $ option but not difficult to add if you do your homework.

Thanks, always looking for a pony with that option (like extra $275.00) at a lower price point. Will run a few prices on that SDS2000X Plus with the needed options.

In the future, I don't think it's a good look to answer with Google AI responses to questions you can personally answer. Those AI things are non-intelligent, non-reasoning, non-understanding, get the next word, autocomplete programs.
We still like the human touch here.
