The schematic symbol for an inductor looks odd?

The inductor L1 in this schematic looks odd to me., can you help me ID what it is? What is the wire coming off the winding and going to the right? I can't seem to find a schematic that looks like it on Kicad or anywhere on the internet and I'm not sure if it's a special type of inductor or why it doesn't look like other schematics for inductors that either have 1 coil with two wires or 2 coils with 4 wires. Thanks in advance!

The image shows a tapped inductor, which is a common device in many areas. Simulator programs would indeed have a problem with it. But it is a perfectly reasonable and fairly common electronic device. Typically the tap is specified as so many turns from one end. Mostly they are used for impedance matching.

Simulators don't really have a problem with these, but most users do. To properly simulate, you need to know the coupling between the two inductors (a tapped inductor can be expressed as two series inductors) and the inductance of each part - values that are quite often not known without empirical testing.

Impedance matching is the main use for these (as it is in this case). Hartley oscillators will also use a tapped inductor as a reactive voltage divider.

You might find some useful information if you search on "autotransformers".

Looks like the PA tank on a hobbyist band II transmitter. The tap is probably about 1/5 to 1/4 from one end. typical total turns might be somewhere in the direction of 8.
