Switch motor controller or motor?

Hello

I'm going to buy the motor controller shown below. I want to turn a small DC motor on and off about twenty times in eight hours for twenty seconds each activation. Would I switch the power to the board or the power to the motor.

There seems to be a three position switch for forward-stop-reverse, I would use that switching connection with instead of switching directly the power or motor leads. What are you planning to use as your switching controller?

I was going to leave it on fwd and the speed after some trial will also remain "set". Relay contacts to turn on and off.

You could do it that way but I generally don't like switching the controller supply power for on/off control of motor circuits unless it's to save limited power. The input power switching transients from TOTAL-OFF to ON are generally what causes failures on a power control board from peak currents charging up filter capacitors and increases the possibility of chip lockup.

I see they have an 'upgraded' version, seems no relay used.

OK, the comments about a relay confused me because none of those controls look like they include a relay. BUT a relay instead of the switch makes perfect sense.

Ther OP's pic included a board with two relays, FWD/REV.?
The updated one shows two SS devces. with reversing SW.With PWM speed control, if needed.

TRUE!! I was commenting on the more recent images. Often, using the control scheme included in the actual controller works better and is simpler, and probably more reliable.
