Please help. I would like to wire this electric motor but I don't understand the connections. I'm surprised that the power from the switch goes to the coil instead of a brush. Can someone please explain which colour wire should be connected to what? Direction is not an issue. Thanks

I doubt that the TS understands your explanation, max.
I hope that the TS drew a diagram of how the connections went before taking it apart and cutting off all the wires. What I see is two separate field windings, which MUST be connected, in series, correctly, or it will not run when assembled.
OBVIOUSLY it is a universal motor, which means the polarity of the fields must be correct. AND we are not shown the armateur, which is a totally critical part of a motor. AND without an arrangement to support the brushes correctly there is totally no hope of making the motor operate.

As long as everything is in series, it wont matter the order, but the motor fields must be of opposite polarity, which can be checked individually with a small DC soource and a magnet or a compass..

Fortunately the two field windings have the interconnection wire still in place, it apears. AND CERTAINLY the armature is rather important if the motor is ever to run again. MAX, you are assuming that the TS understands a series connection.
