I feel clumsy for this... How would you recommend search terms or how to find which common, abundant USA vehicles have factory-fitted stainless steel mufflers ?
Like to locate them in wreck yards by asking 'muffler from such brand/model/year' ?

I thought it was mandatory by now for all N.A. jurisdictions..
I remember when I worked for BMC in the UK in 1962, at that time, all vehicles exported to California had to have SS muffler/exhaust.

Interesting; better chances of finding such in California boneyards...
I know some U.S. made vehicles have them, but now there is another variable tossed to the table... state of the U.S.
My 2000 LandRover (from UK) in not California USA; has no stainless exhaust components...

Well if they were "factory fitted" then they would have likely been junked withing 5-10 years of their year of manufacture and only the individual junk yards are going to be able to tell you that. And good luck with finding a single abundant source. My guess it does not exist considering the number of junk yards.

Why would you want such a thing?

Might take a little work, but pick car and check for OEM parts at Autozone, Advance, NAPA, etc. They will know whether it is SS. Then, junk yards will know their inventory or be able to find it.

Thanks.
The search on vendors or vehicles work in reverse of my intention; maaaany aftermarket and 'performance' and 'special' and 'high end' products show-up that way, but the stock stainless do not appear, just show as OEM with not much detail and none says material.
Why would I want such a thing ? To see which fits my 1961, 1962 Cadillacs for pennies instead of hundred$; crashed donors can be much newer than 5-10 years old. By knowing which have factory stainless, I can visit a boneyard with my dimensions to pick the convenient one.
Perhaps visiting a boneyard they may guess some models. But not much brains found there. Experience yes, but to make unusual transplants they are barely a help. The first question they pose is 'what brand ?' as they only work with 'standard' normal clients. As asking for a ZF4HP22 transmission, they have no clue. They want the donor ID. And if not listed in the computer, they know nothing about.

I have had a much different experience. Several yards in my area allow one to browse what's available in cars being parted out. Once they are fully parted out, its a different story. But, that has not been a problem. My experience is limited, maybe 7 or 8 trips over 20+ years, and only in MN and OH.

I think you are dreaming if you think you are going to find an enact exhaust from 61 for a specific vehicle. I would pay in the thousands to replace an exhaust if it mean I didn't have to crawl under one but two cars. Salvage old parts sucks big time. Salvaging and exhist would really suck. Even if you could haul in torches, I doubt any junk yard is going to let you use them.

Not expecting to find an exact fit for a 61, near dimensions work well, done maaaany things in the fashion. Put a '78 V8 in my '61 with a '89 transmission, my '62 has a '97 computer controlled OBDII Vortec V6 from an Astro van, mating the electrical harnesses took some adrenaline. Their mufflers are a perfect fit OEM '87 Ford Ranger but they rust.
Have a huge mileage strolling boneyards and doing weird transplants successfully, but not that many miles on Google. :(

Edited.- Good, BR-549. Perhaps an exhaust shop can guide me to vehicles with stainless mufflers better than a wreck yard. Will check.
