Losing 6 degrees of freedom control is one hell of a pucker factor while docking in manual control. The fact they could idle the ship, restart the thruster control system and get most of them running again speaks volumes to me about poor hardware/software integration of something that's life/safety critical. They were down to zero redundancy for loss of control to dock or fly back home.

They were that close to being actually stranded and being forced to abandon ship in those pressure suits for an emergency EVA to the ISS. I think those nice Boeing suits have been certified for short-term (minutes) emergency (decompression in the capsule) in space operation.
