I hope this thing flops, SpaceX have received some 15 billion in government contracts since 2003, that's what I call a publicly funded company (unlike the BBC which Musk erroneously believed (why is he so dumb?) was publicly funded). These escapades are frankly insane and lets be frank please, nobody, NOBODY is ever going to walk on Mars.

This, my friends, it what an "Ignore" button is for!

And I will never, ever be Frank. No matter how much my doctor tries to convince me that I am not JoeyD.

I used to be interested in space, I was born in 1959 and followed closely, the Apollo programme and watched the moon landings, it was fun, it was scientifically interesting, it inspired my interest in technology and drove me to get an education in engineering and electronics.

Today its nothing but vacuous hype, Musk - the master of waffling and saying anything he likes whenever he likes - is the antithesis of scientific, of exciting, of thought provoking, of inspirational.

So I find these SpaceX launches to be scientifically empty, a rich brat playing with big toys while he insults anyone and everyone that upsets his fragile racist ego, I mean he calls this thing "Starship" FFS, talk about delusional, the nearest star is over 3 light years away.

All of that IMO is an emotional personal problem of yours with Musk as the messianic huckster, not with spaceX in general. SpaceX is the scientists, engineers and technicians that are working on the frontiers of space technologies, to say they should flop is IMO a ridiculous scientifically empty statement based on emotion.

Both Tesla and SpaceX are on record as enabling if not encouraging racism, prejudice, sexual harassment and bigotry. If Musk wanted that to stop it would stop. Burying your head in the sand and pretending these companies are moral and ethical workplaces and that Musk is the bad apple is sheer naivety.

Read about the experiences of Ashley Kosak at SpaceX where she served as a mission integration engineer, these companies are made in his image, he sets an example of what he regards as appropriate corporate stewardship, but of course, perhaps Ashley is just being emotional...

Excitement guaranteed", as SpaceX puts it - when it takes off then we either see at least some success or a big explosion.

Cleared the tower to stage separation then RUD.

People are cheering not because it exploded, but because they learned a lot.

I'd say they learned the hell of a lot. Just having that massive machine leave the ground was an undisputed success by itself.

One can redefine "success" and claim any failure was actually a success. A success however, is when the mission's stated objective is achieved ("fly around the earth for five hours then splashdown near Hawaii") which it obviously was not.
