Maybe my approach here is wrong with me writing too much, maybe this site is or more geared towards more complex subjects for electrical engineers and the actual circuitry (after all, the title of it is All About Circuits right), and maybe me being an amateur is holding the discussion back.

I just think you are putting the cart before the horse in what you need to get started without a technical background on the details of the subject.

Hey bertus, thanks again for another recommendation.
I've been spending some time today to read threads on the first forum shortbus recommended and I'm already picking up some good information so I will check out the other one too.

For the sake of completion, if anyone else is following this thread I can post some of the answers to my own questions that I find if that would help anyone else looking for similar information. I could also post some links to the threads on the above recommended solar forums that are the most relevant and provide a lot of good detail if I come across some. I'm not sure if that would start to violate the norms or rules of this forum though if I'm posting a lot of links to threads outside of this site.

If doing so is an annoyance and is clogging up the forums here then feel free to let me know it's pointless by coming up with something witty to make me look like a fool and that I'm out of my league. Don't worry, I have thick skin and a sense of humor about myself but I appreciate a laugh.........the more creative the better.

I still am interested in learning more about the internal processes and components of MPPT units so I'll spend time to learn more on my own.

As NSASpook has been keen to identify, and I have already admitted from the start, I'm an amateur compared to many of the major users of this forum. The other forums bertus and shortbus linked to are more appropriate for some of my questions. Well........I gotta go unload my cart and search the craigslist posts for a deal on a used horse.

Why don't we go back to page one and see if you want to charge up a couple of twelve volt deep cycle batteries with your 2 solar panels. To do that you might want:
Solar panels
Buck converter
Battery charge controller
MMPT controller
Or
Just a MMPT charge controller.
Or
If your handy you can build all the component parts yourself.
