Good thing I'm not moderating. Posts with subject titles that mean nothing (help, urgent, plz, and recently the username) would be in the bin.

This is a big pet peeve of mine. First it denotes nothing relevant about the actual content of the message.

Second it almost says "My post it more important then any one else's".

What about those of us that have 0 college classes...
I'm hesitant to post if i think i might have a possible solution, mainly because i know i don't have much experience and usually don't know the specifics, just general ideas... and don't want to risk misleading anyone or inserting foot in mouth

Don't worry. If you know the answer then you know the answer. Participate.

But you should be sure you know the answer for the reasons you stated.

I don't answer near the questions others answer but if it is something about programing, I know the field fairly well and try to help out there.

 

Many courses in many schools and colleges today now use computer learning and assessment.
The student has to work through a series of screens, picking up information and answering questions. Very often the result inputs to their course marks.

So when you see a question like

"Balum 15 MHv?" Urgent Need it NOW!!!!!
the poster may well be rushing through one of these and using his smartphone instead of his own smarts.

And the reason they never come back is twofold. As suggested they spam many sites. And the assignment times out so the answer is of no use then. They probably don't care then anyway.

We have those e- learning courses at work and I HATE them! Nothing can ever replace a real instructor.

 

CBTs, Computer Based Training, have been around forever, and business likes them because of the cost of deliery.

Some people like them over Instructor Lead Training, but, ILTs are better for the human interaction.

If the mod moves them, the OP will just post again ... with the same inquiry and asking why was their original post deleted. Let them see the initial response and take the appropriate action. We know most will never post again.

We also ask them to search the forums prior to posting, but we see how well they listen to that tidbit of advise.

I didnt mean immediatley, but when they post URGENT and then don't reply to a simple question for 24 hours, they should be moved to a special category called unless posts or something, and if they come back later they can always dig it up and re-post seriously.

And I personally find that "similar thread's" function very useful

Urgent is a relative term.

It may mean something to the OP. Of course, I'd be more inclined to reply on such a post that Lack of prior planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part. Or maybe the words of May V. Smith are appropriate ... The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.

No amount of time should be deemed appropriate. In a few days, at maximum, that post will disappear from page one and you will only be bothered by it for that one brief moment of time you opened it.

 

Yea, i guess they filter out pretty fast enough, i still wish there was something to prevent this...

We = class assignment
No skills plus simple and cheap = wishful thinking
plz = lazy

I understand your frustration. No matter what we say, from pointing out the forum rules to asking for clarification, there will always be some who post once and disappear.

I was a moderator at another forum, a non-electronics forum, and I expressed my thoughts to dave, this forum's owner, when they wanted to develope the rules. The rules were written and short of expulsion, there is very little one can do.

Just a short time ago, maybe a year or so, the homework forum had more people just giving out the answers vice leading the OP to the solution. Now and then one slips in and does it, but I seen where another poster explain to that person on how the homework forum is suppose to work.

I know some posters moved over to the projects forum for their homework answers, but the moderators are keen to that an move the thread to it's rightful area.

I think our moderators here do a very good job, as thankless as it is at times.

There have been improvements over the five years I've been associated with this board and I'm sure there are more to come. You will become the wise sage and remember the early days as more hectic.

ive been here a month, half a month really...

The biggest improvement I've seen is the lack of re-worded/disguised questions on how to get mayers car wa ter thing working (deliberately spelled so as not to hit google). That cut out a bunch of other ok topics (from my view), but a great tradeoff overall.

 

April's Fools is coming up again. I went in cohort's with the mods (PM is good that way) to suggest that H + HO and Cold Fusion were the same thing. It was funny, cause those fish will bite every time.

I think this site has a rep out there with those guys.
