I deleted all my Eagle files during back up and restore...session last night.
Had setup a dual boot system.XP and Win7..32bit & 64 Bit....
Formatted without thinking twice...
All of my work and boards and PCB related stuff...gone...pooooof!
So now running data recovery program to see if I can get 'em back....bloody things says come back after 24Hrs.

LoL you are not the first or the last person to realize the fact that HDs are indeed volatile storage devices. I have RAID setup. That have saved my but in some cases. I also have have separate disk for backup. I also use Norton Ghost. To make an image of my basic system setup. It is much faster than reinstalling windows and your basic application software

 

Bill..I'm not talking about 100megs.....it's around 320Gigs I accidentally formatted..

t06....I have used nortom ghost before, it's quite effective. But I wonder it would work on win 7.

Above I yelled Freakin Bats...OK let's starts from the top..today was a wired day for me..
It started at dawn me formatting my drive without taking out all of the data. The one I forgot was the Eagle Project folder in my documents. It contain everything that I did or drew about PCB's. Project files and working circuits and all. ( still my recovery program is running).
It actually began because of a spyware that was hogging my bandwidth. It happened before I left to Hoarafushi. I left the PC then, decided to fix it after returning. Well it is or was my workstation and like ya all, me too have the thing half naked, so I can swap drives and u know the rest. I aim was to make nifty casing and put up some water cooling and all and due to this it always stays there naked. During which time the Mobo upgrades, I went from Single core to Quad core and from 2g ram to 8 Gig ram and blew 1 Nvidia 8800 Monster card in the name of research and water cooling and all..I 'm bragging right....OK back to the day.

So...after returning I fixed it but later thought I will finish the casing so for the time being I built another PC so I can work and log in for the time being. And yet my workstation stayed beside the cupboard and wify will kick it out of the way every morning when she got to go to the office but still she loves me....
it started when the temporary one started to hog, you know slowing down the loading. It would take a minute to launch firefox. Actually my antivirus subscription year ended during that week. So I guess some bugger came down and started creating havoc. So I once again decided to finish my workstation and renew all the subscriptions

At these times all sorts of ideas comes into play u know...I have had trouble with my programmer on win7 64bit, so I decided to create a dual boot. XP can handle all the problematic ones, and I'll have win7 to do faster works and more secure when on line.
I chose two drives to store all my data and have a security backup, and another for the movies and two more for the OS. Cleaned all the drives and put all the files where I like them to be and was ready for the OS. All done at midnight.

Smaller drive for XP and for win7 I had always used the same drive, and I always back up My Documents before formatting. I always had an idea on doing dual boot using two switches with two HDD's. One switch loads XP,and the other loads win7, both OS completely independent. I did this ones using PATA drives way back before sata drives was not in the market. Now doing sata is much easier, I thought I could draw up a circuit and use sata headers and a PIC to switch which drive to go online during boot and also have some cool led's placed and all that was floating in my mind. So I thought I would first make the circuit in eagle which happened to be the current one ( with problem) running win7, which has all the Eagle projects in my docs and I have erased the backup of that typical folder in order to keep things all neat and tidy and all. So..Eagle folder is in my Win7 drive, all the backup are taken into another drive, erased all the duplicate files and folders too.
I know I was going to draw up a circuit, even though I knew I do not have a way to transfer the circuit to the clad. What the heck was I thinking in the first place....but first I need to make proper header for the power, reset and led's. I got to have all the parts in order to make one. So I went an made that too. The front panel of my PC is somewhat broke. The switch and led's are hanging, since I decided to make a nifty facia, it's been like that ever since. So...I put in the power switch header only for the time being and installed XP to the smaller drive and everything was fine and all the data and movies were there....and next was the win 7 and I believe this is where all went wrong.

 

Have you considered Avira antivirus? The basic version is free and quite good IMO. It's what I use.

 

I took out my CD case and saw Open Suse OS CD. I thought, this would be a good time to start suse ( never realized it failed before). So Plugged in the win7 hdd with all the rest and loaded suse.
After some fancy displays came the partition manager and it showed drive names that were like to me..I mean learning DOS & windows was easy but this suse thing drives my mind blank...too many drives, too many ways to partition and too many devs....
I know I have to Install on the 320G drive which by the time I forgot all about eagle folder. Bummer...
Suse gives all kinds of mind boggling stuff....and somehow I manage to install without formatting, instead I think I created a partition.
I was really happy, by the time wify was up and I showed her that I am going to use a new OS from now on and she too should learn to use it and morning hugs and kisses and then suddenly this pops up...

I was .......I hit enter, it came back, again, again & again..then it hit me. I did tried it before.

Bugger!!!Bugger!!!Bugger!!!.

this suse thing does just does not work for me.
Frustrated I took out the CD and thought I will check the partitions with XP.
Decided to take a break in the morning, so took a shower and I took our little prince to the balcony to watch the school girls going to school when suddenly a bat let loose on me..I mean..c'mon..I just took a shower and a freakin bat pissed on me. This isn't just my day...

Back to the shower.....
But before that I checked the disc partitions and Suse created a lot ...see below..

I am going to renew my ESET subscription soon plus I bought the spy doctor too. It helps. The subscription timed out at the wrong time u know....

Good to hear, save it on memory-sticks of CD/DVD's.

After reading your stories, I suddenly remembered that one of my HDD's suddenly, and for no reason jumps into read-only mode. (I'm using Linux). That is one of the first signs of a dying HDD. So now I'm backed up on CD's, DVDs, and another HDDs.

Ok..so on wards....you guy must have read about the bat problem I am facing..see the tree below.

This is right in front my current home. Tree branches out and cover my entire roof. When fruit season comes, it's like a shooting arena for the bats....
They see who gets the most hits on. They don't care who or where they let loose. I got shot 3 times, twice in one day. I have to clean the balcony, my door and almost every motor bike everyday once these guys shows up.

And that wired day I thought I had my problem solved when the they came to cut out the branches,

Tough luck. They took out the branches covering the roof. Yesterday I found out that tree wasn't as old as I am. And to thought was ancient.

I need a gun. Badly

How about you pick the fruit, run over it with a lawn mower, rinse with a hose, and in a couple of days, even the smell will be gone. That's what I do with oranges and grapefruit.

 

We eat oranges and grapefruit in England. (After we have paid through the nose for them at Asda (Walmart).

lol. I should adopt that philosophy, so I can stop worrying about things and take my helmet off.

 

U know guys...I am broke most of the time....when I say broke I mean I have is few bucks most of the time in my wallet.

Wifey earns and she gets to spent her salary how ever she wishes.

I take jobs only if I need the money to buy something that is electronics and work related equipment. And I would take a job if a friend wants me to, I do not go and find any job.
Rather high paying jobs comes my way cause as most of the people know that I am the last resort. So if it comes my way, I can make plenty. Same as if anybody says it cannot be done or impossible, I will take that as a Challeng and show them that nothing is impossible for me when it comes to electronics. Now I am more confident cause I am a part of AAC. The best forum that is out there.

I have 4 accounts, all are empty except for the U$ account, I really dunno how much dollars are there, I don't bother to find out. If I get a resort project or job, payment is in USD, and it will go to that account. Never needed to touch it still.

But I do have lotta expensive stuff. I mean you would want what I have and wonder what I do with them. What I buy is for my pleasure and I never sell what I buy. I would rather give it away to family or friends if they wants it and If I do not need it.

I would find a job if my house needs an item like a microwave, a fridge or anything like that. And I will get that item with in a weeks time. Have been doing this as long as I remember. Last item was a huge Freezer.

And next time I am thinking to buy is an iPad.
Try to remember the date guys. I have like 20 USD with me right now. But now that I have made up my mind to buy an iPad, let's see how long I take.

One problem though....My Daughter O'level fee's plus tuition fee's are pending. Now that payment will be settled this week.

Sometimes I wonder how I do it.
