If a gang-banger shoots another gang-banger the interest in closing the case is the ratio to the shot bang-banger contributions to a lawful society. The case is logged and then goes to the dead gang-banger file in the corner.

If someone avoids cameras (fortunately they are ubiquitous today), uses an unregistered weapon (unfortunately they are ubiquitous today and there ain't a damn thing any law is going to do anything about that), shoots someone at random and doesn't talk they are going to get away with the crime.

A public service unless someone innocent gets in the way. The down side is all that violence makes many neighborhoods uninhabitable.

In fairness to law enforcement, in many of those areas it is virtually impossible to get anyone that knows anything about what happened or who might be involved to talk to the cops. Makes it rather hard to close a case.

The innocents usually don't go in the corner file as fast so its in the gangbangers interest to improve marksmanship.

Can't say I blame them for having an 'eye' problem when dealing with people with little or no remorse.

It's now legal to murder babies in New York. It's not technically legal to murder gangbanger teens in Chicago but effectively it is. It's looking like we're heading back towards a world where the people that can defend themselves are the survivors.

The really sad thing is outside of the murder capitals (>80% of gun homicides are gang-related) the total murder rate in the US about the same as most European countries with much few guns.

The unsolved murder and likely to stay that way file cabinet.
That doesn't help when you are dead or worse one of your children are dead because they just happened to get in the way of a drive by. Or that you simply can't enjoy you life because someone is always shooting up the neighborhood.

I'm not saying it helps or is a good thing but that's the reality. The root problem is not guns, it's a culture of violence and a total lack of empathy for those in the cross-fire. Some of these people are full-blown psychopaths as adults after being raised without a law abiding family structure.

Never said the problem is guns. Just see my post.

You need a license to practice medicine or pilot a plane. But the most important job in the world, creating another human being, any two morons can do it. Oh they do fine with the creating, it is the follow through of raising where the problem starts.

Fake news is a term that was invented by people who want to sweep stories about themselves under the rug. Stories like this need to be aired, even if it is a unpleasant truth. It keeps our democracy honest.
But the buzzfeed article (the one Joey was referring) was fake news. There was nothing to sweep under the rug.
