Hello everyone,

I'm new to AAC and I would like to start working on my own projects. I recently joined two MOOCs in IoT and Embedded Software and I would like to practice the contents of the lectures with my own gadgets.

That being said, which open source/ low cost softwares would you recommend me to start with schematic and PCB design and simulation?

Thanks!

There's a freeware version of Eagle. Board is limited to 2 layers and 3"x4".

It doesn't do simulation. Most schematic/board editors don't.

I use DipTrace to design and layout my PCB boards.

if you’re looking for an introduction and will only require small quantities of PCBs, ExpressSCH and ExpressPCB is a free pair, easy to learn. But you’re limited to their PCB boards which can be pricey.
