Hi,

I want to do this totally experimental learning project of designing a DDR3 RAM DIMM stick that could (optimistically) work in a PC. I understand that this is an advanced topic hence I dont intend to actually use it in my PC for performance benefits (the only goal is to make it work at all.) I have general knowledge and experience in electronics engineering, digital and analog design and EM propagation laws.

I have scavenged a bunch of EDJ2108BDBG (datasheet in the attachments) DDR3 chips from an old (but actually working) RAM sticks Kingston khx1600c9d3x2k2. I intend to do a proper BGA reball for all those chips
and use them on my custom DDR3 stick PCB. I know that usually the layout part of DDR3 generates the most question, but this time I need help with the schematic.

Where could I find an example schematic of DDR3 RAM DIMM Stick, if there is such a thing at all? I did my research, went through forums etc. But seems like not only the layout is considered a commercial secret... After a while I settled on this:

https://www.gadget-manual.com/pinout-ddr/

So I have the datasheet of my chip with its pinout and I have a standard pinout of the DDR3 DIMM slot. There are so much more pins on the standard slot than my chip has. How do I come up with a schematic at first? Is there a limitation on how many of my 256MByte DDR3 ICs can I use per one DIMM slot? How do I wire multiple memory ICs together?

Side question about SPD. There was a little 8 pin chip on every RAM stick I disassembled with a writing EO268242 or E0268242. It definitely has to be some kind of EEPROM chip but I could not find any information or datasheet of it. I have a TL866II+ memory IC programmer/reader that I could possibly use to extract its data, but since there is no such code EO268242 in its options, I am not sure what is the next step...

This post might lack consistency, but I am really confused doing my first steps with DDR3. As I stated earlier, I fully understand all the challenges and questionable outcome of all this, but I am only after the experimental experience and for now I am looking for something that I could hook on and continue on my own. I appreciate all the observations about designing a DDR3 DIMM stick schematic at first. Thank you.
