MP3 player stopped working. It controls all the sounds on this toy. It’s a Moderno 24v f450. I’m looking for advice or where I could get a replacement module.

Try contacting Moderno and see if they will supply a replacement. Without seeing it it's hard to suggest anything. If it's easy to remove, take some good hi-res photos of it,

If you can provide a drawing of the external circuit that goes with it, it is possible that we can provide a suggestion to verify that it is the module and not some external connection that has failed. Repairing an external connection will cost a whole lot less, and provide much less pain.

I’ve called and emailed Moderno several times with no response. I did find out they won’t give out a wiring diagram. They consider it proprietary.
Thank you for answering. It’s hard to take a picture as the wires leave the mp3 module and go through the body behind the dashboard. Just like a real car. I will try some pics.

I’m new to forums and just know enough about wiring to get me into trouble. lol. So when I posted this question twice was because the forum made me register twice.
there was no need to YELL at me about it. You could see I just joined and been nicer.

If no one has said it before - Welcome to AAC.

I ran into a different problem, one having to deal with a sprinkler control box, but basically the same issue. The main resistor on the power feed was burnt out. Someone overloaded it (I bought it used; $3.00). I called the company to ask what that resistor value was but they said it's proprietary information. I told the guy I could buy a new one and simply read the color code there. That's when he started talking about cascading failures. When one component blows it tends to drag down other components with it. But this was on the main incoming power feed. Told him that. Then asked if every time there's a power failure - that resistor is going to burn up ? ? ? Told him "I don't think I want your products." Then I told him the date code on the PCB. Suddenly he realized he wasn't talking to some 80 year old woman who had no idea how electronics worked and his tone changed. Realizing that I knew a thing or two he asked about the date code on the housing. Turned out that since it was less than 2 years old it could be warrantee replaced at no charge. I ended up with a totally new controller. But the guy's first inclination was to tell me something to blow me off and send me away empty handed. That way he didn't have to do any work.

While this is a different component, the issue is the same - that of claiming "Proprietary Information". One could easily sit there and map out the wiring and build their own schematic. All you wanted was a new MP3 Player. HE (or she) didn't want to do his (or her) job. Call again. If you don't get satisfaction then ask to speak to a supervisor. That just may change his tone.

The module is programmed with the sounds for that toy. The only source if a replacement would be the manufacturer.

So, how old is the toy? They seem very popular.

I'd be surprised if the actual MP3 player had gone faulty, its far more likely a wiring failure due to vibration - unless it's been abused, eg battery replaced wrong way round...

I have a mini-keyboard and drums that my grandchildren play on - it stopped working so changed batteries, no improvement. Opened it up and found main battery feed from battery box was routed to a little circuit bard on the back of one of the drums! Of course some heavy handed drumming had cracked the solder joint. 2 minutes with a soldering iron and some hot-glue & that won't happen again...

What IRVING describes is exactly the sort of failure that I am suspecting: a broken connection external to the module. That is why I suggested seeking a circuit drawing.
ALSO, in no portion of my post #3 was I intending to convey "yelling." I do add emphasis occasionally, because that is the way I actually speak when in person. Not yelling. But sometimes I do fat-finger and hit the caps-lock key accidentally. I am not a trained typist and so my keying is slower than my thinking, and sometimes less accurate.

Sorry to say, but failures of this and other Moderno products appear to be all too common and they have, it seems, only a 30 day return window and a 90 day product warranty. From reading the complaints on the 'Better Business Bureau' (BBB) website they are a shocking company to deal with. BBB seems to be a 3rd party company validator much like Which? Trusted Traders or CheckaTrade in the UK, but there doesn't seem to be a central Trading Standards body like in the UK. The reviews on various websites in US states are widely pretty poor with numerous examples of poor and arguably shady customer service with common reasons not to resolve issues (ie water damage - for an outdoor toy???)

@Cyncar not sure where you are located, or if BBB, etc is relevant to you.

Thank you everyone for answering. I did know going into the purchase of this ride on toy could end up with a real dud. Amazing I got an answer back from my email to Moderno. I sent them a video of what it is doing. They will review and get back to me.
I have checked all the connections and have had a couple other people check them out also. Connection all seem good. The only one I couldn’t get to was the ignition switch and this might be where the root of the problem is. I will need to take off the dashboard this weekend. Kind of a big deal. But it must be done.

One thing that you could do, if you or others trace out any part of the circuit, is to publish the circuit where everybody can see it!! But do it in a not-trackable way. Then call them up later and tell them that it is OK because you found the circuit in the you tube channel.

I would make sense that the fault that shut it all down would be in the ignition switch section.

I honestly don't think they'll do anything about it. As I said before, "It's Proprietary" is just a way of not bothering to answer your question.

I have the same exact truck with the same exact problem. Should be just less than two years old so I will call moderno tomorrow morning.
How difficult was the replacement process once you got the new part? Also. If it is out of warranty will they at least let you purchase one? It was a $700 toy I bought brand new for my son and it’s only gotten a handful of uses. Would really suck if it is shot with no options at this point.

Starbai Welcome to AAC. The TS (Thread Starter) hasn't been here since June 6, and was active only two days. It's unlikely they will be back again. And we don't know if they solved their problem. If so - we don't know exactly how. Your best bet would be to start a thread of your own.
