Hello all.

I have a question with selecting resistor wattage rating. I read somewhere that it's best to double the wattage rating of the resistor.

But I'm having trouble finding a resistor close the the ohm value I need 285mOHM with a double wattage rating around 8W.

Do you guys typically double the wattage ratings?

Thank you.

You could make it up using 9 x 2.7 ohm (1 Watt) resitors and 1 x 5.6 ohm all in parallel. this would give you 284.7 mOhm. This would give a power rating of about 9.5 watts. As these are standard value resistors they should be easy to obtain.
