Replacing batteries with wall wart (voltage question)

Hello all. I have one of those portable wand hand scanners that runs on 2x AA batteries. I'm wanting to build a set of mock batteries so I don't keep burning through real ones. The thing is, the wall wart I have measures 3.4v output and 2x AA only provide 3v. If I hook this up, will I damage my device? Or do I need to build a voltage regulator? Thanks in advance.

No argument here. I've never heard of a device that drops dead for a tenth of a volt difference from what the label says.
