hi,
im using a 8 pin dpdt 40a relay to reverse the polarity of the motors for my kids electric ride on car.
today it stopped working in reverse. when i select reverse, it still goes forward. when i select forward it goes forward

I have checked all my wiring and everything seems fine.
I have a spare relay (exact same) and it does the same thing

any ideas?

I would check that the reversing switch contacts are not 'fused' together, in the forward position.

On the assumption that the relay is energised to select reverse can you see the relay contacts move when reverse is selected ? Posting the schematic would greatly increase the chances of us being able to solve your problem.

Is the relay coil getting a voltage ?

Can you test the voltage on the relay contacts ?

 

If nothing has been intentionally modified then the condition is that either the contacts on the reversing relay have become welded in the forward position, or else the relay is not energising for some reason. So the first step is to see if the coil voltage is present when the reverse switch is operated. That will show us which direction to go in a diagnostic sequence.
