Tracecom, nice guns. Did you start from a kit? I have a couple of .50 calibere flint locks that I started but never finished.

Built the locks form Siler (now Chambers) raw casting sets and bought pre-channeled stock blanks. Got the locks done and the stocks roughed into shape. Got the barrel blanks and breech plugs fitted and all of the furniture castings. Then work and life got in the way again.

No kits. The top rifle has a Siler lock and a Green Mountain Barrel; it was actually a gift from another builder. The bottom rifle is a Tennessee style, and has an L&R lock and a swamped Douglas barrel; it's the only rifle I have left that I built, and is my favorite. I just wish I had put an entry thimble on it, but hunting season was coming and I took a short cut to finish it. The stock is stained so dark that you can't see the curl in the photo, but it has a tight curl from buttplate to muzzle. I built it in 1976.

I like to build 1911's.. I don't have the skill for woodworking, so I use rubber grips.

 

I tried making electronics out of wood but the resistance was too high......

Me too, but I found that the resistance was too low.

My wood was wet, and frozen.

 

I'm only a little surprised that so many people that show the creativity of electronics also have some creativity in wood.

May your grain always be going in the right direction.

I've always loved woodworking, I've made a few things for fun. I also built a billiards equipment case, for cues, chalk, racks, etc. Nice compact little thing, still hoping to finish it with a stain and green felt, to match the pool table.

Back in high school I was horrified in shop class to see people using soldering irons as wood burners. Even worse, the shop teacher didn't even know the difference!

You need the kind of job that gives you plenty of time to browse the forums at work....

I remember sitting in training classes and looking across the room and half the people were surfing the net. The marketing lady next to me was ordering bottles of wine.....

I work as a software developer, so I'm sitting at a computer all day, 5 days a week. The problem is that when I get free time, I prefer to be AWAY from the computer. The screens have taken a toll on my eyes, even in the short period of time I've been working at this particular company. I am convinced my eyesight has diminished already. That's one of the reasons I don't browse the forums as much anymore.
