I have no experience with electronics at all. I'm trying to override a gamepad controller button with a very simple reed switch circuit. I want to add a delay, where once the circuit is closed it stays closed for some amount of time (configurable or even just some constant) and then opens back up. What's the easiest way to go about doing this? Thanks

 

You could use a reed relay driven by a 555 chip configured as one-shot.

That sounds pretty good, I would also need a battery to drive the whole thing?

 

Pick a power supply to match the reed relay, 5 V is common, 4 NiMH AAs rechargeable or 4 Alk. AA, AAAs.
