Hell All,

What would be the basic criteria for selecting rectification in AC to DC converter design.

In power supply design, how to choose rectification method of sine wave.
I wanted to know, when to choose half wave rectifier and when to choose full bridge rectifier.
What is selection criteria for that.

Amount of Ripple, or lack thereof ...

 

Full-wave is normally used unless it's not feasible and/or the DC current draw is very low.

Half-wave has the following disadvantages:

• Higher ripple voltage
• Adds a DC component to the transformer output that provides the diode input, which is not desirable
