Hello,

i a have a rechargeable NiMH battery of 1.2V and i used it for a clock. The clock stopped
operating so i measured the battery with the multimeter to check if it needs to be charged.
The multimeter showed the voltage of battery statring from ~0.7V and rising up slowly and constantly.
Does anybody know why is that happening? Maybe the battery is dead or it just needs charging?

The battery is probably discharged. Have you tried charging it?

 

When the load on a battery is removed the voltage on the battery will creep up. The only way to get an accurate idea of what is going on is to measure the battery voltage under load, such as in the clock. As to charging they make simple inexpensive NiMH battery chargers which are very inexpensive and much easier that rolling your own. I assume a battery about AA size.

Yes the size is AA.I tried another same battery without load but the voltage doesnt creep up. The first battery even connected in the clock gives the same result(voltage creeping up)
