In an off-grid solar system, do inverter/charger combos draw power ONLY from the battery or do they also use any power the panels are producing at the time and make up any difference using the battery? The latter would seem to be the logical way to operate, but I wasn't sure this is what happens. So as long as I don't exceed the inverter's max wattage I can add extra panels to use more power during the day, right?
I ask this because I keep seeing systems that imply it will not work at all without a battery.
