Hi all, I am looking into designing the circuit described above, The objective is to power a series of LEDs that will slowly increase and decrease in brightness over time.
I am fairly new to circuit design and have gotten as far as building a PWM circuit to dim the LEDs with the use of a 555 timer and a variable resistor.
The next step I presume would be to add to the circuit some way of controlling the PWM duty cycle with a sine wave or some other method.
I may be barking up the wrong tree here and am looking for a little guidance in the right direction.

Regards and Thanks,

It's somewhat complex to control the PWM of a 555 using an external signal, especially for a large duty-cycle range..

Here's the LTspice simulation of a simple PWM circuit using an LM339/393. that generates a PWM signal (yellow trace) going from a 0 to 100% duty-cycle for an input voltage (green trace) of 1-4V.
