For a photographic proces I need a very powerfull light high in UV/blue's. After some research I think the Philips UHP beamer lamps should be perfect.

After a little more research it seems to be quit difficult to power these lamps.

How come it's not possible to just connect it to a power supply of a suitable voltage?

 

The power supply needs the ability to supply an high voltage to strike the arc and then lower the voltage to a suitable level to maintain it within the lamps specification.
