I want to make a power supply which would convert from 230VAC to a positive and negative 55VDC simultaneously. I dont know how would I achieve that. Would I need to actually have 110VDC.

Thank you for your help.

hi n,
You require a mains step down, centre tapped transformer, rated a 60Vac, 0v, 60Vac. and a bridge rectifier, with smoothing and regulation.
What is the current requirement for the two voltages.?

How can you make that assessment without knowing more details of the TS current requirement and any possible regulation that maybe required?
Your guess is just as good as mine at this stage,

Use a centre-tap transformer and a bridge rectifier.
Yes, you will need a step-down transformer.

Edit: Sorry, bridge is oriented wrong. The bridge will blow instantly on power on. That's what you get for copying wholesale off the internet.

Here is the correct orientation:

I have already decided on building one myself. Yes, It is gonna be used for an audio amp and I have decided on a unregulated dual polarity power supply because its the easiest. Now does anyone have any useful information on building such a PS like how to choose the correct step down transformer and bridge rectifier. Just the equations would do me fine.
