Hi guys,

I just joined this forum because I have a technical question about power plugs I have for a led strip. I hope this is the right section and you guys can help.

Basically my problem is I have 2 power plugs (see images below) which power an LED ambilight strip at the back of my TV, my TV is wall mounted and my sockets are behind my TV the 2 power plugs are far too big and chunky and I cannot push my TV back far enough for the LED lights to look good so I need to find a single power plug that can power both cables of the led strip and be slim.

OK, well, if you have one outlet open, that gets you two. If you get one power supply that can do the 8A you appear to need, it will probably be much larger.

They appear to be 5 volt 4 amp power supplies. If you want a single supply you want a 5 volt 8 amp switch mode power supply. The LED plugs look to be standard DC power plugs. You may want to measure the plug outside diameter to make sure. You just need a run of wire and parallel the two LED connector plugs. The power supply can be set off to the side. Out of sight and out of mind.

So I don't need 10v 8a? Would there be sufficient power to power at the the same level as the 2 plugs.

I would also need to know how to joing both of the LEDs together to connect to the 1 plug.

I just need the items to buy from Amazon, lol I am not knowledgeable about this stuff at all. So I would appreciate it if you could source me the correct power source and slim plug and the adapter I need to join both LEDs power connectors together to connect to the 1 plug.

Is there a slim plug with external power box? I could work with that.

Also what adapter can I buy from Amazon to connect both LEDs together to fit the power plug?

Like I said to the other expert, if you could list the items from Amazon I would really appreciate it.

On the face of it you need 5V at 8A. The voltage doesn't add, the current depends on the load. This will probably bigger than what I suggested.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tesfish-Su...onics&sprefix=5V+8A+po,electronics,236&sr=1-3
is an example.

No based on the existing units I read 5 volts @ 4 amps so you need a 5 volt 8 amp supply if you use just a single supply. What you now have are commonly called wall warts because the actual power plug is molded making them easily plug into a wall outlet and look like a wart on the wall, maybe a wort. Anyway you can use any number of supply designs as long as you end up with the correct voltage 5 volts and required current 8 amps. The voltage will remain 5 volts but we double the current to get 8 amps. Running a few meters of wire will not cause enough voltage drop to worry about. Just use good quality wire like an equivalent to US spec AWG 18 or maybe 16.

<EDIT> I see Yaakov has it covered. </EDIT>

Looks to be a standard 5.5 mm DC connector. Like the male/female connectors I linked to.

That would likely work fine. All it comes down to is a pair of connectors wired in parallel.

Sorry the product I posted was not available for delivery tomorrow so would this one work instead? - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07F5VWKXY/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_tP2SDbNWNE00N

Someone mentioned 18awg but this states 24awg would this be a problem.or still work with no issues.

Thank you again for all your help guys I really appreciate it :)

In fact no, it would need to be this one right? - https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GB4K7TG/ref=cm_sw_r_em_apa_i_sX2SDb0T3X71D

Because I need 2 males into 1 female?
That would work. The choice of wire gauge and connector is merely based on ampacity, the amount of current a line can safely handle before getting warm or hot. Since your power supplies were 4 amp and going to a single supply would be a maximum of 8 amp, I doubt things would come close to that, I just winged it when I mentioned AWG 18 or 16. Personally I would prefer AWG 18 minimum if it were me to come off the supply but it's your call.

Thank you very much, wish me luck!
