Positive Negative wiring to 12V transformer

Hello forum.

I'd like some information regarding positive-negative wires, which are not coloured red-black ( I happen to be in Australia).
Lately we get 12 Volt transformers sent to us from China, and instead of red(positive) Black(Negative), on one wire there is a
number 1, and on the 2nd wire there is a number 2 with a dash underneath the number 2. And we figured out by testing which is which in order to connect the transformer to the signage installation. Is this a standard in Asia for their wiring? Is there a chart which shows this type of wires which consist of numbers instead of colours?

Kind regards.

Is this an actual transformer or by transformer do you mean power supply?
If it is a transformer, there is no positive or negative as it outputs AC.
Post a picture if you are unsure.
I'm in OZ too :)

TS must be referring to 12VDC wall adapters and not simply AC transformers.

There is no standard. The only way to confirm is by testing with a voltmeter. Continue to test as you are doing.

Hi guys thanks for the replies. Here's the AC-DC Converter Power Supply. In this photo which I found on the net
it has it the red-black wires, but most times its comes with the following wires instead of red-black wires.
So why the 1 and 2 with dash under the 2? I was just curious about the numbering on the wires, the way I tried to explain
it to the rest of the crew was:

1= negative, because of the minus symbol (-)
2= Positive, because 2 bars make the plus symbol (+)

It is best to get a multimeter to confirm the polarity.
You can pick one up for just a few $.
Some old tape players for example, used red for -ve and black for +ve as they were +ve to chassis. That caught me out!!
So it really is a good idea to confirm it before hooking it to something you may destroy if it is wrong.
