can anyone tell me what is the best software for programming PIC..

I would say MPLAB from Microchip, combined with one their C compilers. MPLAB is free and the C compilers are also available in free versions. But if you are used to some other PIC development platform from your school. I would have used that

MPLAB is best, it also works directly with pic kit 2/3 and a few other programmers.
It also has built in simulator.
