My Philips large screen tv built in April 2000 is slowly looseing its sharpness and looking washed out. The model # 9p5534 c102. Could it just be that the screens in the back just need wiped off or is the problem more severe?

i suggest bringing it to the Philips service center. as what you have described your tv is losing focus, it's not worth twiddling with it.
