Opto-Isolation for DC motors

Do others agree that it would be a good idea to use opto-isolation to connect a controller to a PWM controller and motors?

This strikes me as a good idea because it greatly reduces the prospect of motor noise impacting the controller and the controller's power supply.

In such a design the motors and their electronics would have a dedicated battery and would be controlled using an opto-isolator circuit "driven" by the MCU.

Thoughts?

I have found in practice, using relatively low current (<20A) DC motors, that having separate power supplies connected to a common point using a star connection is sufficient. If either of the supplies is connected to a live mains supply then isolation would be necessary for safety reasons.

Why the 8106?
With what that is better as mountains of all kind of imaginable other optos??
Woul like to hear some experience stories
