Opinions on this Waveform Generator

Owon is similar to what BK Precision was a couple of decades ago. Affordable, not with the highest performance out there, but adequate for most hobbyist and light laboratory usage.

EDIT; as others have hinted, it mostly depends on your requirements and your budget.

I have Siglent SDG1025, now discontinued but no big deal, ebay have one. That channel phase independence could be a huge pain, why Owon did that is anybody's guess.

What is wrong with your waveform generator?
What are the symptoms?
Give us the make and model number and let's see if we can revive it.

Edit: And we will start a new thread in the Technical Repair forum.
Edit: I see there is already a thread on this.

I think I did cover most of the problems mine currently has. but the biggest problem is the fact that not one chip no matter how small or insignificant has been laser etched off. no I can understand sort of etching of the larger chips but to extend it beyond that point is a bit pathetic so to repair it would be difficult unless you make guesses on what the chips are. I think the problem lies under a heat sink that has 2 8 pin chips on it that seem to be the output and one of them seems to be bad. causing the sine wave to be chopped in half on the positive side of the waveform. So rather than try to work out the problem with what is a dirt cheap now under 100.00 unit. I would simply replace the unit with something a bit more reliable and a better overall unit than the old thing was. would do up to about 1mhz but claims 6mhz. just junk and not worth fixing.

Owon are one of the 'also ran' manufacturers behind the likes of Siglent and Rigol.

Main criticisms seem to be that the two channels are independent so you cant maintain a fixed phase relationship between them, which is limiting, and no external trigger, so using it for the source of a low-end spectrum analyser might be tricky.
yea fairly sure if I ordered it I would get the 2035 not the 2070 that they show. So it looks like I should look at the sigilent for 150.00 on E-bay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/377218361728 seems the better option.

The 70MHz version is only $149

Except that auction has ended, and was sold as-is, missing parts and no guarantee it works.... you have one broken one already....
yea I went through the add and there was a video of it turned on and the fan alone scared the daylights out of me. if the fans are that noisy what else could be wrong with it. rejected at that point.

I also saw the 2070 at the 149 price and although it's not exactly what I want it will for sure do the job and the fans are nice and quiet. even more quiet than the ones on my oscilloscope.

Your're right I didnt notice those details - it was junk!

There are SDG1025s (used) for sale at over 300 dollars yet a brand new 30MHz Siglent are the same price!

I have the 30MHz Siglent and it's a nice piece of kit. Got it in a bundle with 100MHz 4 ch 'scope and 6-digit DMM for an amazingly low price via the Uni.

Would have liked 100MHz or higher but budget wouldn't stretch that far! But there are ways to get more. A GHz freq multiplier chip with 2 x 30MHz inputs gives up to 900MHz and with a simple tuned filter is good for many applications.

SDG1032X ?
They've been pretty popular but recently superseded by the 25 MHz SDG1022X Plus (with 30&60 MHz models too) that have a few more fruits at little additional cost.
The Plug and Play with Siglent DSO's FRA/Bode plot mode is pretty useful for design and tuning of filters.

Yes, its about 3 or 4y old now. I've used it, with the DSO, as a rudimentary spectrum analyser and various gain/phase plots. The USB interface, together with the DSOs web view has made automated testing/parameterisation of various components, analog circuits, SMPS, etc. easy. Used prices are holding up well...
