While I suspect that nearly all of those arrests were "legitimate" (notice the quotes) in the sense that the intent of those arrested was to purchase crack cocaine and that any claim that they only did so because they were lured into committing a crime that they otherwise would not have done, I completely agree that it was an egregious case of entrapment and that all of those arrests and convictions need to be thrown out. The people that thought up and carried out this reverse sting should have been charged, or at the very least fired, for committing illegal acts. But I'll be they weren't. Law enforcement (and other officials) will only have strong motive to make sure they do things right if they know that they, personally, will be punished if they don't. Otherwise, it becomes a case of nothing-ventured, nothing-gained. If it works, they get some bad guys off the street and, if it doesn't, well, it was worth the try.

There was a time when, for the most part, public officials were held to a higher standard. Many of them fell short, of course, but when it was uncovered, the consequences were real and often pretty severe.

I hope the airbag didn't break anything.
I'm only saddened by the fact they let this bozo resign instead of being charged like a regular driver would have been and then fired to prevent him just getting another police job in the next county.

"The deputy rear-ended a vehicle that had stopped due to a school bus with activated lights in the opposite lane"

The idiot could have crashed into kids crossing the street.

The driver got out of the vehicle and jumped into the water. A few minutes later, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office boat unit arrived on the scene and took the driver into custody. The passenger of the vehicle just sat there when the driver got out and jumped into the ocean. She only knew him as Joshua.

Florida patient’s hands filled with cholesterol after he ate 6-9 pounds of cheese, butter for months

I'm highly skeptical of this article.

It claims that he ate 6-9 lb of cheese, butter, and additional fat that was then incorporated into his daily hamburgers.

How many calories are in just 6 lb of cheese, butter, and fat?

Certainly it depends on the kind of cheese, butter, and fat, but most typical cheeses, such as cheddar, colby, swiss, etc, are in the 100 kcal to 110 kcal per ounce range, or 1600 kcal/lb on the low end. Butter is typically just over 200 kcal/oz, or 3200 kcal/lb. As for "additional fat", that's too ill-defined to be very meaningful. But, for instance, beef fat comes in at about 4000 kcal/lb.

So let's assume that he consumed just 6 lb of cheese (in addition to the hamburger that he incorporated all of this cheese into!). That alone would be 9600 kcal/day and that's at the very low end. An even mix of three pounds of each would come to over 26,000 kcal/day -- and that's on top of the beef in the hamburgers and whatever else he happened to eat as well.

I don't buy it.
