Good for you/them.

I assume you will have a hand in selecting a university that will not destroy their minds?

This is something with which I'm currently struggling.
I'm glad I was able to parent/teach my kids to think for themselves long before they left for college - I had no fear that a simple university could ruin their minds. They picked the school/location they wanted - life is very good for them.

It's only the youngest that's still in that stage of life. She's taking engineering after being in advanced math classes in HS while practicing the mental and physical training of advanced Martial Arts. Their minds will be destroyed, not hers.

This is were she's going.

This wasn't my first choice but mom wanted her close to home.

Enough that it causes a lot of damage.

I suspect this is going to be another bloody century. For all the same reasons.
My kids will be ready for it.
Unfortunately it may turn out that way. There will be those prepared and those not prepared. I like keeping friends and family in the first group. All I see in the city is violence but that violence once reserved for the city is spilling over into my little quiet suburbia. Here and everywhere. Dame shame too.

In ways it's funny to hear that. Our kids are grown, educated and have kids of their own. Last year we had two graduating HS seniors now in college. Growing up I never dreamed of these days but here we are. Granddaughter was Valedictorian and in addition to her HS diploma here they receive a State of Ohio honors diploma. She is working scholarships and going medicine. Grandson made all state in wrestling and had good grades, A, B and an occasional C. Senior year, first girlfriend and grades nosedived. His father wanted to take the kid's life. He needed to pass one class just to graduate and managed a C. Granddaughter is Ohio State which is great since her mom works for the university her tuition is 50% off so with scholarship money she is on a free ride. Grandson is at Ohio University and may get some help as a walk on in wrestling. He screws this up his father may just take the kid's life. :) Still has the same girlfriend.

It's just how quick things move along.

This begs the question, has wokeism peaked, or is it at least close to it?
I don't think it will ever peak. Peak implies a downward slope on the other side, back in the direction of normalcy. I think it grow and morph into the new normal. The new, oppressive normal. Whose oppression will be fought with "brand new" revolutionary ideas by future generations who have a new version of " woke" that smells a lot like the old version of normal.

Woke? Can you please share the definition of "Woke" that you are using? I only know of one historical definition plus a newly minted one by a Governor and a TV network. Please share.

This thread is going on 5 years old and 1000 posts. I'll not be baited into getting it closed now. You'll just have to trust your own interpretation of what I said.

No, seriously. There is only one definition of that word. You seem to be using in a way I just don't understand - kind of inverted.

Could you please define wokeism as well? I think there is a real misconception of what the word meant and what some Tv network and a few politicians are trying to spin it into. Looking forward to your version of the word.
:D This really has you itchy doesn't it?

I can relate. Definition drift is one of my biggest pet peeves. I've talked about it here recently:

someone(s) changed the definition on me. Not to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but this wouldn't be the first time the collective has agreed to change definitions of words to match the way most (or the most outspoken) people choose to use them.
It is exceedingly frustrating when it happens to a word that was important to you; a word that you had some portion of your identity wrapped up in. But, "this is a normal, healthy part of how the language evolves" - or so I'm told, when I gripe about my words being yanked out from under me.

Ironically, this is what post # 991 was actually about; a veiled commentary on this very thing. Or at least what I was thinking about when I wrote it. Like how the words "Democrat" and "Republican" have traded meanings since the time of slavery.

Not really "traded" meaning. More like, each party strategically targeting or avoiding specific demographics for the sake of finding a majority. Strategies change over time and value proposition offered by one party becomes more meaningful over time to as interests of the business (party?) ebb and flow.

kind of how Ford tried to be the car for "the common man" to offering models and trim levels to the modern woman, to abandoning the car market all together and focusing on trucks and SUVs to leave the car market to Kia, Honda and Toyota.

Doesn't have me itchy. Just very humored. Note that nobody, as yet, is willing to post a link to a definition that defines the newly minted context in which you are using the hijacked word. Your definition is only on wacko media web sites and right wing blogger websites. You should either align yourselves with those sites and post the links to the definition you are using or, find another word to describe what you mean. ;)
