I think forensics will determine which gun(s) fired those shots that killed the UPS driver and bystander. As the article points out, shooting bystanders is often used as an escape tool as it diverts resources from the pursuers.

In any event, the decision made by law enforcement that exposed innocent bystanders would be very difficult to make. The two robbers had already shown their brutality in the jewelry store by shooting one individual in the head. Knowing that fact might make one more likely to risk a shootout with the robbers to prevent other intentional shootings of bystanders.

I talked to my UPS driver today. He says the UPS victim had the job only a few months.

He said he carries a "Plan B" for just such a happenstance.

Good for him.

I don't fault the police for doing their job in an emergency but they were following this truck for miles. IMO they lost proper fire discipline in a wild west shootout that was preventable with proper tactics.
