No booze would have been a recipe for disaster in all the Snake-Bars we frequented near the bases in Florida during the 70's. Back then they had drive-thru bars where you could buy drinks behind the wheel in most of the southern states. I think Florida still has drive-thru liquor stores.

 

Yup Jax (all of Duval Co. is incorporated as Jax) has the Mayport Naval Base, Cecil Field NAS, and Kings Bay Trident base almost next-door. They have been trying to get a Carrier based there. It's been a couple of decades ago they made the strip joints go dry which created quite a ruckus, dunno if they still are. Thought it was a State Law but must have been local. All the Jax Liquor Stores closed their in-house bars and drive-thru windows long ago. Used to be if you went to FL from GA you made a stop at a Jax Liquor or one of the smaller stores and stocked up. Prices now about the same in both states so you don't hear about people getting busted on I-95 in GA for bootlegging anymore. They do have drive-thru convenience stores that you literally drive inside of and can buy beer and wine and all the goodies.

What sidewalks? As you know we are a low tax state and mostly cannot afford sidewalks or other municipal services like garbage collection, so yeah we just crap in the right of way. Since we cannot afford officers or police departments, there is nobody to tell us we can't do that. The county sheriffs are too busy counting up their corruption dollars to bother with defecating citizens.

 

It was always a dilemma as a kid running around barefoot in the summer in Fl. The asphalt was too hot to walk on and the grass was full of sand spurs and yes there were no sidewalks... And the grass was also invariably full of dog crap.

 

1 night I was going to bars/clubs, and I swear I stepped in something that felt like poop, but apparently not. Maybe it was just a slug on the sidewalk, thank god. I got into the light and no sign's of anything like poop, or anything else really.

Unlike those in California, we in Florida crap sunshine.
