Hi all - I am looking to make a simple alarm system that sounds a siren when the buzzer/horn/speaker receives 110-120v AC. There are plenty of devices available like this but I don't want something that will make you go deaf if it goes off next to your ear. Does anyone know of an adjustable horn that operates from 110v??

I don't want the sound level to exceed that of a standard household smoke detector.

 

Use a transformer/bridge to drop the voltage from 110VAC to a suitably rated voltage to operate a small DC sounder?

Use the 110VAC to operate a relay that switches on a sounder via a 9V battery?

Just a couple of ideas.

 

Mallory Sonalert was an audible alarm I liked using. You can get them in any working voltage you want. Note also the Accessory Volume Control Kit 10 to 15 db; for Series SC SCE and SCL which gives somewhat of control over the volume. The link also has a link to the Mallory Sonalert Website.
