A can lay railway track between two given stations in 16 days and B can do the same job in 12 days. With help of C, they did the job in 4 days only. Then, C alone can do the job in:
A=16
B=12
C=48/5=9.6
TOTAL=4

Please write 48/5 as a proper fraction
Proper Fractions
So, a proper fraction is just a fraction where the numerator (the top number) is less than the denominator (the bottom number). Here are some examples of proper fractions:

9*3/5

A, B and C can do a piece of work in 20, 30 and 60 days respectively. In how many days can A do the work if he is assisted by B and C on every third day?
assisted=help by providing money or information.
However the stipulation is that 'b' and 'c' work only 1/3 of the time

Hence the fraction of work completed in one day = 1/20+(1/30+1/60)/3 = 1/15 -- Can you take it from here?

how do you understand the question ?

Working alone, 'A' can complete 1/20 of the job per day...
Similarly 1/30 for 'B' and 1/60 for 'C', respectively

However B and C will only be working 1/3 of the time (i.e. 'every third day')

So the (effective) fraction of work performed each day = A's share +1/3 (B's and C's share):
=1/20 +(1/30/1/60)/3 = 1/15

Get it?:)
